During half term, Rory and I went to York. We have been to York before (nearly 7 years ago) but we loved it so we decided to go again. There were a few attractions that we wanted to visit that we didn't see last time like The York Castle Museum and York Dungeon. Unfortunately, York Dungeon was still closed because of the recent floodings.

We booked to stay in Hotel Ibis which was a five minute walk from Micklegate which is a famous medieval gateway into York. We were really happy with the hotel. The reception and lounge area were lovely and there was even a pool table for guests. Our room was basic but we only used it as a base to sleep. It was clean and had everything we needed. We would definitely return in the future.

We visited York Minster on our last visit but I couldn't resist taking photos of the stunning architecture. The amount of detail on the building is amazing and it truly is a work of art. Spring had sprung early and I loved looking at the daffodils, snowdrops and crocuses on our walks around York. A highlight for me was visiting The Fudge Kitchen and watching them make Strawberries and Cream fudge. Obviously, I purchased some to take home! It was delicious!

We were really lucky with the weather while we were there. The sun was shining and we had gorgeous blue skies but it was freezing! I ended up buying a hat and gloves while we were there! We didn't see any rain until the day we were going home. I would definitely recommend York if you haven't been before. It is a stunning historic city with lots to do.

Have you been to York before?

Make your wedding day the best experience of your life!

Your wedding day is always going to be one of the most incredible days of your life, no matter what happens. After all, it’s the day you vow to spend the rest of your life with your partner. What could be better than making that promise? Even though it will be one of the best days of your life, there are some things you can do to make it the most incredible experience ever.

You Don’t Have to Stick to Tradition

Do you really want a traditional wedding, the same as millions of other weddings before yours? This might sound like heaven to you if you’re a traditional couple. If it is your idea of the best day, then by all means, stick to tradition! However, if you and your other half see yourselves as different from the rest, don’t stick to tradition. For example, tradition says that you shouldn’t see each other on the day of the wedding before the ceremony. Having some time alone together before the chaos begins might be really nice for you and your partner. There are lots of other traditions you can break too! After all it's your day and you can make it as personal as you want it to be.

Make Sure Everybody Can Make it

Ideally, you’ll have your wedding on a date and in a location everybody can attend. You want all of your loved ones to be there to celebrate with you at this special time, right? Save The Dates are a great way of letting everyone know your wedding date in advance and most couples usually have a rough idea of location as well. Depending on where you have your wedding, this might not be the case. Get creative. If you have relatives in another country, why not stream the service to them? You can do this with services like www.idostream.com/wedding/wp/.

Find Ways to Include Special Family and Friends

Find ways to include your family and friends in the ceremony. Of course you have bridesmaids, groomsmen, flower girls, etc. But why not have a musical friend perform some songs? Why not have your auntie read a meaningful poem? There are tons of ways they can get involved to make the day more special for you. We involved Rory's dad and sister in the ceremony by allowing them to choose a bible reading to share in church. It is a great feeling knowing that as many of your family and friends can be involved as possible. After all, they are important people in your life and you'll probably want to involve them in your important day.

Plan Your Wedding as a Team

By planning your wedding as a team, you’ll both be far more excited in the run up to the big day. Allowing your other half to have their say when it comes to the wedding will make it really special for them too. Men might not care so much about the colour of the table dressings, but they might love to choose the flowers. Ask them what they’d like to get involved with and you might be surprised. Rory wanted his say in the food and wedding car - typical male interests. Unfortunately, we couldn't afford the car he wanted so we came to a compromise and chose his second favourite.

Make Sure You Can Remember it

One of the only ways you can look back and properly remember your big day, is through photographs. Make sure you take your time when it comes to choosing your photographer. Look at http://www.weddingsbyjp.co.uk/wedding-photographer-newport to get an idea of what you should be looking for. You can also leave disposable cameras on each table for the guests to play with. Lots of couples have photobooths and video confessionals on their big day too! It's been 18 months since our big day and while I can still remember it now, in years to come, my memory may not be as clear. We have hundreds of photographs from the day and we chose our favourites to include in an album that we can cherish for years to come.

Have Fun With it

Don’t take yourselves too seriously on your wedding day. Have fun with it! Include some unexpected aspects to wow your guests and give you amazing memories for years to come. Linking back to the previous point, we had a photobooth at our wedding reception which included props. Our family and friends loved this and some of the pictures are hilarious. My mum was skeptical but she was probably in it the most!

Above all though, remember it is your special day and the only people you need to ensure are happy is the two of you.

Valentine's Day Inspired Nails

Happy Valentine's Day! Whether you're single or in a relationship, you can celebrate the day by digging out your favourite shade of red or pink and painting your nails which is exactly what I did last night. I have over 100 bottles of nail polish and I tipped them all out and sorted them into shades of pink and shades of red. I definitely don't need to buy any more!

I managed to narrow my collection down to four shades of red and four shades of pink that I wanted to share with you. I'm not sure how long you are supposed to keep bottles of nail polish for. I've probably had some of these for longer than recommended. Oops! For the occasion, I chose Rimmel Salon Pro Nail Polish in Mars as it screams classic pillar box red to me which is perfect for this season of love.

What are your plans for Valentine's Day? If you are single, show your body some love and have a serious pamper day/evening or spend time with family and friends that you love. And if you are in a relationship, spoil your loved one and shower them in love all day long.

I have so many products in my cart so I thought I would share what I have been eyeing up and you can help me decide what to buy!

I have managed to narrow it down to my six favourite items of jewellery, my six favourite phone cases and my six favourite prints. I don't have an endless supply of money so I'm looking to buy two items of jewellery, one phone case and one print. Help me decide what I should purchase this month. I know there will be future purchases as everything is just so pretty and I won't be able to resist. But for now, I need to limit myself because life sucks and I have to pay bills!

Let me know what you think I should buy and if you fancy anything for yourself, Coconut Lane are offering Lost In Lipstick readers 20% off. Just go to www.coconut-lane.com/ and enter lostinlipstick20. And just in case you needed another reason, delivery is only £1.95!

Travel Bucket List

The world is a beautiful planet and there are so many amazing places in the world that I would like to visit. I thought it would be fun to share them on my blog as a virtual list but also a good opportunity for you to share your advice if you've been to any of these cities/countries.

York (image source)

I'm kind of cheating here because a visit to York is already happening (in two weeks) but I want to document all of my travels on here so why not include the beautiful, historic town of York. We have actually been to York but it was about 7 years ago. We had a great time and knew we would always visit again in the future. Last time, we stayed in a cute little B&B but it was a long walk to the centre of town as there was nowhere central to park. This time we decided to stay in a budget chain hotel in the center so that we are closer to everything and have more money to explore everything York has to offer. We visited the York Minster on our last visit and even climbed all those steps to the top of the tower. We also went to Jorvik Viking Centre, which is fantastic and very educational. This year, I would like to visit York Castle Museum and see The Shambles again. Obviously, a walk along the City Walls will feature as this is a must! If you have any other recommendations please let me know.

Amsterdam (image source)

I have wanted to go to Amsterdam for ages now and I know so many people who have been and fell in love. As you may know, I booked flights and a hotel as a surprise for Rory's Christmas present. We're going at the end of March just after Easter. We're both so excited and there are so many attractions/places that we want to see and visit. We definitely want to see Anne Frank's House and visit at least one museum. At the moment, favourites are Rijksmuseum and Van Gogh Museum but we're open to suggestions. I would also love to pack a picnic and spend an afternoon in Vondelpark. A visit to Amsterdam wouldn't be complete without a canal cruise and a bike ride so I think these are definitely on the cards. Any other attractions/places you think we need to visit?

Paris (image source)

I know it's a cliché but I really want to go to Paris. I would love my husband to surprise me with a visit as I just think it would be so romantic. Although, I don't know why but I think I would be massively disappointed. Paris is probably no different on the romance level than other cities but the film industry has portrayed it as the capital of romance. I can speak a little French (I got an A at GCSE) and there are many sights and attractions that I would love to tick off my list. Obviously, I would like to go up the Eiffel Tower and look at the wonderful view. I would also love to see and visit The Louvre. I'm fascinated with the architecture as well as the art inside. I would also love to see Notre Dame Cathedral and Arc de Triomphe. Have you been to Paris? Do you recommend it?

Northern Lights (image source)

Before we die, Rory and I would both love to see The Northern Lights. I know there are several places you can go to see them but I'm not sure where is the best place to see this magnificent phenomenon. I know there is Iceland, Norway, Finland and Sweden where you can get a glimpse so we would have to do our research and see which place is the best and also where we would like to go the most as I would love to visit all four countries in my lifetime. I think I only know two people who have seen The Northern Lights and one of those people didn't see them until their third trip! I suppose that makes them even more special as you aren't guaranteed to see them even if you travel somewhere like Iceland.

New York (image source)

I bet there aren't many girls (or boys) who would say no to a trip to New York. I would love to save up for ages and go on a mega shopping spree! There are also many sights I would have to see. It would be awesome to see all of the sets of the films/TV series that I love like Sex and the City, Friends and Gossip Girl. I would also love to see Central Park, a show on Broadway, The Empire State Building and The Statue of Liberty. All of the obvious tourist attractions!

What is at the top of your travel bucket list? Do you have any recommendations of places you think I would love?
